Ellen Johnson

BIO - Theatre/Acting 

Ellen’s acting and singing career began in her birthplace of Chicago, IL where she studied at Northwestern University, Ted Liss Actor’s Workshop, and the Chicago Actor’s Workshop. She later relocated to the west coast and studied Meisner Technique with Jeff Goldblum and Mark Peligrino (Playhouse West, Los Angeles), scene study with Robert Benedetti, vocal coaching with Marni Nixon, Roland Wyatt, George Shirley and Mary Mackenzie along with numerous other workshops and classes in San Diego, New York and Los Angeles.

Ellen was a staff member at the prestigious La Jolla Playhouse learning behind the scenes operations. Her acting credits include performing in film, tv, webisodes, industrials, voice overs and stage in Chicago, Los Angeles, San Diego, Portland and internationally. She was a member of the Portland Shakespeare Touring Company and received performance grants from Young Audiences and Artist’s in Education through the Oregon Arts Commission. As the vocal coach for the Old Globe Theater’s M.F.A Program, Ellen prepared professional actors for onstage performances and participated in their productions. Ellen is the co-founder of Sound Visions Media, an award winning video production company where she has produced film/video and on camera work and voice overs for commercials and films. 

Ellen holds a Master’s Degree in Vocal Performance from San Diego State University and a Bachelor’s of Music from the American Conservatory of Music.  She is the author of the educational training aides, The Vocal Warm Up, You Sing Jazz, and Vocal Builders. She has four critically acclaimed solo jazz recordings and is the author of Jazz Child: A Portrait of Sheila Jordan published by Rowman and Littlefield.
