The Story Behind the Recording - Official Release June 12, 2026!

Some albums are made from inspiration. This one was made from necessity.

Elemental Essence: A Neurosonic Journey has been living inside me for a long time, longer than I can fully account for. It is the place where every thread of my life as a musician, a healer, a teacher, and a human being finally came together. And now that it is out in the world, I wanted to create this space so we can walk through it together.

Let me start at the beginning.

A Life at the Intersection

Three things have been at the center of my life for as long as I can remember: nature, music, and consciousness. Everything I have created, taught, and explored has grown from those roots.

I have spent over four decades at the intersection of music, the voice, and healing. As a jazz vocalist, a classical soprano, a songwriter, a voice educator, an author, and in my earliest years an actor where I first learned what the voice could do to a room, sound has always been my first language. But long before the fields of neuroacoustics and sound healing became part of any mainstream conversation, I was quietly obsessed with a deeper question: what does music actually do to us? Not emotionally, though that too, but physiologically. Neurologically. At the level of the nervous system.

That question led me to the work of Dr. Jeffrey Thompson, founder of the Center for Neuroacoustic Research, and eventually to a collaboration with his son Shea Thompson of Scientific Sounds. That collaboration became this album.

Born from Healing

I will be honest with you. This project was not born from a tidy creative vision. It was born from my own journey through trauma and the slow, sometimes bewildering process of healing. Music was not just a career for me during those years. It was medicine. And I became determined to understand why.

The seed of that understanding was planted long before any of that, though. I grew up watching my mother raise three children on her own under enormous pressure and stress. And I watched what happened to her when she sat down at the piano and sang. Something shifted. The tension in the room changed. She changed. Her voice was beautiful and her musicianship was well beyond the ordinary, and what she did at that piano was not performance. It was transformation. She did not have language for it, and neither did I as a child, but I understood in my body what I was witnessing: sound as emotional regulation, music as a path back to the self.

There is something deeply feminine in that origin. The image of a woman, alone, carrying more than any one person should have to carry, finding her way back to wholeness through music and voice, lives at the heart of this project. My own journey has mirrored hers in ways I could not have anticipated. Loss, betrayal, the kind of unraveling that leaves you wondering who you are on the other side of it. I am still walking that path, as most of us are in one form or another. But music has never once abandoned me on it. She never had a name for what music did for her. It was simply part of who she was, and it healed her without her even knowing that was what was happening.

The healing arts have always known what science is only beginning to formally document: that the voice, the breath, and the body are not separate instruments. THEY ARE ONE.

I have spent my life trying to understand why, and perhaps this album is the most honest answer I have found so far.

What I discovered, and what the science increasingly confirms, is that specific sound frequencies can guide the brain into states that support deep rest, emotional processing, creativity, and even neuroplasticity. When I finally had the tools and the right collaborator to build something with that knowledge deliberately woven in, Elemental Essence was what emerged.

The Five Elements

The album moves through five tracks, each built around one of the classical elements of nature and calibrated to a specific brainwave frequency range.

Earth anchors. Water flows. Fire transforms. Air liberates. Ether transcends.

Each track is its own sonic world, shaped by crystal and Tibetan singing bowls, tuning forks, synthesizers, and electronic soundscapes. On select tracks my voice enters the landscape, sometimes in ways that listeners do not even recognize as a voice at all. The sounds I produce in the extreme upper whistle register have been mistaken for dolphins, for birds, for instruments. That blurring is entirely intentional.

The Science (The Short Version)

The brainwave entrainment frequencies embedded in each track are not decorative. They are precise. Earth works in the theta-delta range for deep grounding and memory consolidation. Water moves through mid-theta, the same frequency range used in EMDR trauma therapy. Fire uses theta-gamma to activate transformation and whole-brain coherence. Air settles into alpha for presence and clarity. Ether reaches into gamma for expanded awareness and integration.

I will be going into far more depth on each of these in my Sound Creativity Journal on Substack, where I break down the peer-reviewed science behind each element one by one. The links are below.

What This Blog Is For

This space is for the ongoing conversation. I will share updates, reflections, behind-the-scenes moments, and responses to your questions. I want to hear from you. If this music touches something in you, or raises a question, or if you are a practitioner who wants to talk about how you might use it, please reach out in the comments.

We are at a remarkable moment. What has been called the NeuroArts movement is finally bringing together artists, scientists, and healers in a formal way. This album is my contribution to that conversation.
